Hypnotherapy is a natural therapy which helps your own subconscious mind to safely make the positive changes you require in your life. The therapist induces a form of deep relaxation, called hypnosis or therapeutic trance. The power of positive suggestion and imagery are used to encourage the client to change any outdated, negative beliefs. By making positive changes to our beliefs about ourselves, we are able to alter the way we relate to ourselves and the world around us.

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state which each of us experiences several times per day; have you ever been so immersed in reading that you lose track of time? Or have you driven your car to work and realised that you have no recollection of the journey? In each of these circumstances, you have experienced a light hypnotic state. In this state, your conscious mind, which is responsible for your cognitive thinking and mental process, takes a step back and allows your subconscious mind to take the lead. The subconscious mind is responsible for your 'automatic' responses and your inbuilt beliefs about yourself. Sometimes negative patterns have been developed in the subconscious mind, which affect the way we act and relate to ourselves, our friends, family, colleagues, and environment. These outdated beliefs and behaviors can be transformed with hypnotherapy into beliefs and behaviors which serve you better.

What to expect in a Hypnotherapy session

Before your first session, I will send you a questionnaire to fill out and send back to me. In the initial session, we will have some time to talk about your reasons for coming for therapy and reflect on the answers written in your questionnaire. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about hypnotherapy. You will then be able to rest on a comfy couch and enjoy a deep sense of relaxation. You will be able to hear everything I say and can bring yourself out of hypnosis if you want to. Your first session will be 90 minutes long, and following sessions are 1 hour long. After your first session, you will be given a personalised CD which you can listen to at home for re-enforcement. Changes will only occur in response to treatment if they are changes that you want to make and are in your best interests.
