Acupuncture in Glastonbury
"Every challenge offers a whole universe of new opportunities."
- Josie Hadley
Acupuncture has been practised in China, Japan, and Korea for thousands of years. According to traditional Chinese philosophy, good health is dependent on energy 'Qi' (pronounced 'Chi') flowing in a smooth and balanced way through a series of channels (called meridians) within our bodies.
The flow of Qi can be disturbed by a number of factors; emotional states such as anxiety, anger, or grief, as well as poor nutrition, physical injury, hereditary factors, infections, and trauma. When Qi is imbalanced, illness or pain may occur.
Acupuncturists insert fine, sterile needles to specific points along the meridians to promote the body's own healing response and restore the body's natural balance. Receiving acupuncture can feel deeply relaxing and enjoyable.
Modern Science suggests that acupuncture may benefit the muscular, circulatory, nervous and endocrine systems.
Just some of the conditions people seek acupuncture treatment for are:
- Pain
- Sports injuries
- Stress, anxiety or depression
- Tiredness and fatigue
- Insomnia
- Digestive discomfort
- Migraines and headaches
- Menstrual problems
- Fertility issues
- High blood pressure
- Skin conditions
What to expect in an Acupuncture session in Glastonbury
Your first acupuncture appointment will involve a detailed consultation, where I will ask you questions about your reason for seeking treatment, and details about your health and well-being, I may also ask to look at your tongue and take your pulse to help with my diagnosis. There will be an opportunity for you to ask me questions and outline your goals for treatment. You will then be able to rest on the couch and enjoy your acupuncture treatment. Occasionally an infrared heat lamp is used to warm some of the needles; this should feel like a lovely, soothing warmth. Extra advice may be given regarding your diet and lifestyle. Follow-up sessions include a shorter consultation to check your progress and a 20-35 minute treatment. Each session takes 1 hour in total.
